Eskdale Defeats State Advances In one of the best batting displays ever seen at Eskdale, Marcus Smith Bcored an undefeated 115 (four sixes and 14 fours) for Eskdale in a friendly cricket match against the State Advances Corporation. The game ended in a first-innings win for the home side, who declared their innings closed when seven wickets were down for 280. In addition to Smith 's 115 (retired), W. Nicholl scored 27, P. Clark 17> J. Spence 37 (retired), E. Holt 20, Cowper Smith 43 (not out) and Ellis 12 (not out). McParlane took three for 62, Surgenor one for 15 and Tansey one for 66. Against Eskdale 's 280, State. Advances made 145, of which S. Triggs scored 31, Monrad 27, Hazleton 12, Sur. genor 19, Cockcroft 13 and. Higgins 1L Bowling for Eskdale, M. Smith took one for 34, W. Nicholl three for 19, Spence one for 20, Cull'wick two for 14, Shirley one for five, Holt one for 15, Cowper Smith one for 16 and Ellis none for 10.
