Havoc was recently caused by lightning at Lake Rotoiti, source of the Buller River, Nelson. The picture shows remnants of a telephone-line which was melted for four hundred yards by one flash. At the top left is shown a sample of the original wire, and immediately to the right is a piece of shattered line grafted to a pebble. The line connected the Post Office with the accommodation house.
