NEGLIGENT DRIVING

WAIPUKURAU, This Day. Before Mr J. Miller, S.M., John Patterson, motor driver, was charged, in the Waipukurau Court yesterday, with negligently driving a service car on the main road between Hastings and Waipawa; also with driving without reasonable consideration for other persons on the road. The offences were alleged to have taken place at Opapa on December 16. Defendant was convicted and flned £2 and costs £2 17/5. Other Cases. Charged with driving a motor-car across the intersection of Porangahau road and Ruataniwha street, Waipukurau, without reasonable consideration for others using the road, Gordon Wilson Staines pleaded guilty and was fined £4 with costs 10/-. The charge arose out of a collision, said Constable D. H. Sutton. Defendant was approaching the intersection at between 30 ond 40 miles an hour. The other car struck was damaged to the extent of £45. and defendant's car suffered damage of about £20. Kathleen Gray was fined 10/- and costs 10/- for riding a bicycle without a light on the main highway near Waipukurau. On a charge of being found on licensed premises after hours, Wi Hanita was fined £1 with costs 10/-. Constable P. J. Mullan said he found defendant in the passage of the Takapau Hotel outside the bar after 10 o'clock at night. The defence was that Hanita wanted to see the licensee about top-dressing.
