CLIVE REGATTA
Easter Monday Attraction A considerable amount of local interest is being centred around the sports meeting and regatta which is heing held on the new grounds at the mouth of th9 Ngaruroro river, Clive, on Easter Monday. For the past few days £working-beesT' have been busily engaged in preparing the grounds," which should he in excellent order on the day. The ground itself, with its ideal surroundings and pleasant environment, makes it one of the best sports grounds in the district, and, provided the weather conditions are good, the day should prove extremely pleasant.. The programme that is being arranged is an extremely extensive and ambitious one, and many events are being introduced which are perhaps quite novel to tho district, such as wrestling; on horseback, tug-of-war on horseback, a man racing against a car, a man racing against a horse and so on. The prizes that are being oft'ered are iu themseives very attractive and should ensure good fields. Perhaps the most historlc events ef tho day will prove to be the canoe races and exhibitions, for which three special canoes with their own special crews are being transported all the way from ^ Ngaruawahia, Waikato. The 'Maoris of Ngaruawahia are well known throughout the country for their skill in handling their canoes through the water and over hurdles( but perhaps not ali people have had the privilege of seemg them in action. The people of Hawke's Bay will have this oppjrtunitv on Easter Monday, and already this event is being) freely discussed and is being eagerly anticipated . by the public. The Ngaruawahia regatta precedes the Clive meeting by a matter of only a few days, so that the crews should be in very good form when they appear at Clive.
