AU CKLAND, March 19. Beferring to the radio station infctalled at Auckland in connection with the Pan-American Clipper's flight, MrH Harold Gatty, the company's representative in New Zealand, said the Clipper was too far away to-day for direct anessages to be received. Possibly some messages would' be picked up to-night when there would be less interfereuce. thau in daylight hours. The messages from the aeroplane would be picked up by the stations nearest the Clipper. On the last hop from Pago Pago to Auckland, the secoad longest on the xoute, the Auckland station would bei in constant touch with the aeroplane. From the time of leaving America until arrival in Kew Zealand, stations would be in constant touch with the Clipper, thus guarding her all the way. Mr. Gatty added that the New Zealand Meteorological Department under l>r. Kidson had been co-operating, and would continue to do so until the fiight to New Zealand and return was completed. Weather reports from Australia, Pacifie Islands, and elsewhere Were being xadioed to the Hobsonville wireless station, and thence transmitted to the Pan-American Airways ' meteorologist at Auckland, who was assisted by Dr. Macky, of the New Zealand office. Mr. Gatty said that vessels within two or three hundred miles of the route would be eommunicated with to ascertain the weather conditions on the route.
