CHARLIE CHAPLIN PREPARES TWO TALKIES

The first talkie to be produced by Charlie Oliaplin will be based on a story written by the comedian himself. Paulette Goddard will be starred in this and in Chaplin's seoond production, an adaptation of D. L. Murray's novel, "Regency." Chaplin last year decided to abandon the traditional type of Chaplin pieture and go in wholeheartedly for talkies. He will not act himself, but will produce and direct pictures starring Paulette Goddard. The first talkie will have modern Shanghai as. a background. During his recent voyage to the Orient, Chaplin was much struck by the life of foreigners in the extra-territorial conoeesioas oi the Chines© Treaty Ports, and his story is based upon wnat n« saw during his visit. Major Ronald Bodley is now hard at work on the script for the film of "Regency." He is writing in Chaplin's bungalow. Here is kept the familiar bowler hat, together with the rest of

the Chaplin wardrobo- Charlie ha« changed his film suit several times during his career. The original suit i« now in a New York museum and its successor is on show in Los Augeles.
