ANNUAL CONCERT BY BRITISH MUSIC SOCIETY AT WAIPUKURAU
A largie and very appreciative audience gathered at St. Andrew's Hall, Waipukurau, last evening, for the first annual concert given by the members of the Central Hawke's Bay branch of the British Music Society. The organisers were responsible for providing lovers of classieal and modern music with a splendid evening's entertainment. The delightful programme presented was full of variety with selections from compositions by old masterg as well as modern composers and the audience showed their very keen appreciation by their hearty applause. The. stage was charmingly decorated with tall vases and flat bowls of choice summer blooms and autumn folia^, the back of the stage being drape'd with black curtains- The accompanists were Mesdames Gerald Wilson and F. V. Ward. During the interval-, Mrs Ward, on behalf of the society, tendered a vote of thanks to Mr and Mrs C. Watson, for lending their piano; he also appealed for more members for the society. Mr Watson also eaid a few words, giving praise to Mrs G. Wilson and Mr Ward The programme was as follow : — Pianoforte duet, Sonata in B flat Kajor (Mozart) Mesdames P. Anderson and G. Wilson ; vocal solo, "Down Vauxnall Way" (H. Oliver), Mrs W. Gray; pianoforte solo, "Romance in D flat" (Sibelius) Miss K. Riddle ; unison songs (a) "The Lass of Richmond Hill, (b) "Strawberry Fair" Junior Choral Group ; vocal solo, "Wanderer's Song" (Schumann) Mr E. Collin; instrumental tria, "La Flute Enthantee (Jean Baptiste Daucla), Mrs F. V- Ward (piano), Mr J. C. Windle (violin), Mr H. S. Cottrell ('cello) ; part songs, (a) "The Fisherman"- (Schnfeert), (b) "The Irish Reel" (Traditional) Choral Group; vocal sold, "Moming Hymn" (Henschel) Mrs A. Rathbone ; pianoforte solo, "To the Spring" (Greig) Miss Airini Hutt (Junior Group) ; vocal solo, "Credo and Othello" (Verdi) Mr E. Haldane; pianoforte duet, Entr'acte and Ballet Music from "Rosamund" (Sehubert) Mesdames P. Anderson and G. Wilson; vocal solo (a) "The Wood Pigeon," (6) "The Owl" (Liza Lehmann), Mrs H. E.
