TAURANGA EVENTS

Horses of Better Class Engaged FIELDS FOR T0-M0RR0W ' (By "Early Bird")AUCKLAND, This Day. With. the conclusion of the Ohinemuri fixture this week,.the really big Auckland provincial circuit .has closed and with the Bay of Plenty - meeting at Tauranga on Saturday ' and Monday next the class drops a grade all round. Nevertheless, the fields are quite good throughout and a provision has been made for a division in the nonwinners ' rac^ Win and place betting will be in operation ahd the going will be fast unless further rain falls. The field engaged in the big event, the Tauranga Cup, is probably the best seen out for enaffy years in this race and it promises to furnish another stirling contest, so many of which have been seen on the circuit. Mazir is topweight and he is not out of it, although it remains to be seen if he will be at home on this course, which has its own peculiarities.. Impasto Was placed three seasons ago at this distance and there is no doubt as to his fitness, his run into second place in the sprint last Wednesday being brilliant under 9.9. Down to 9.1 he may be a good proposition. . Gay Talkie was at his best when he won the Ohinemuri Cup, and his forai on Wednesday last, with an apprenti.ee up, can be overlooked. He is a smart horse over a middle distance. Miss Lu will be more at home in this class, even if she appears to be a • bit close to those above her. She won this race last year and as' she was one of the leaders in the handicap event last Wednesday, until within a few yards of the post, she may again be difficult to dispose of. Legatee has been winiiing on. the East Coast and he is not out of his class, while Valrent finished a close third in the Ohinemuri Oup, form that was good for this promoted hack. In the second part of "the handicap there is a decided prospect in Respectful, while Sergia, Winlona, Vera Acre and Day Wind have light'weights' chan'ces. To sum it up, one would have to be prepared to see Mazir shine once again, with Gay Talkie, Mis3 Lu, Impasto and Legatee most dangerous of the others, The sprint, the Flying Handicap, has weakened considerably and it now looks as if Tosh will be found fighting it out with Gay Seton (wh.o went two good races at Paeroa), Bellkyrian, Blue Needle and Palustre. Miss Te Koura and Clooneen read best in the divisions of the Trial Plate, while others well placed in the minor events are Cook's Elect in the Tanner Memorial, Girl Pat and Barricade, although the former is of course now racing in different colours and enay have changed stables ere this; Lady Ruler, Racemosus, Jewelled Girdle, and Ringshot. The following are the form horses engaged ta-morrow:— 11.45, Trial Plate.— Pirst division: Miss Te Koura and Yery G)ad; second division: Clooneen and Llangollen. 12.80, Tanner Memorial. — Girl Pat, Barricade, Min Lu. 1.15, Gate Pa Hurdles. — Lady Ruler, Killadar, Swift Spear. 2.0,- Tauranga Cup. — Mazir, Gay Talkie, Legatee. 2.45, Brown Memorial. — Racemosus, Gay Egypt, Colleen Gain. ■ ' 3.30, Greerton Higk-weight.— Jewel-. led Girdle, Brown Lap, Erination.
