CHILDREN'S HOMES
Annual Appeal To-morrow For forty-four years the residents of the provincial district of Hawke's Bay "have gladly assumed the responsibility of providing tho necessary funds to carry on the valuable work of caring for the orphaned, neglected or destitute children of the district and this year it is confldently anticipated there will be an even more ready responee to the Trustees appeal. There are 110 children in the Homes ranging from four years of age to sixteen years and the maintenance of such a large family necessarily involves substantial expenditure. Throughout its forty-four years of activity very many children have passed through the Home and to-day there are numbers of good eitizens in this district who, but for the assistance rendered at a very necessary time, might not have developed either physically or mentally. The appeal of the child is one which strikes to the very roots of the feelings and induces a practical demonstration of that wish to assist in a good cause. It can be eaid that charity is the greatest of the virtues and if it is not possible for each and every resident of this district to exercise the act and thought of charity to the extent he or she would wish it is possible for all to indulge that desire to some extent. The trustees appeal for the sum of £1500 and surely this amount is not too large to ask of the people of Hawke's Bay. The years following the earthquake were difficult financially for the Children 's Home and to-day there is an adverse balance of £1728 19/9 in the income and expenditure account. With the objeetive of £1,500 aeliieved this drift in the imances will be arrested. A collection is being organised throughout the district, but it is not possible to make a personal call upon all residents. It is aslced, therefore, that donations be sent by post to he reasurer, H. E. Edgley, Chureh Lane, Napier. All donations will be acknowledged in the columns of the newspapers. The smallest donation will be gratcfully received.
