DEAD MAN'S WATCH
Found Under Unusual Circurastances When Mr J. C. Denne, of Waipukurau, son of Mr and Mrs L C. Denne, was killed in a motor-cycle accident on Fabruary 26 last, the wrist watcb which it was believed he was wearing, was not found on his person, Advertisements and diligent inquiries failed to reveal any trace of the wateh, and the family came to the conclusion that it was irretrievably lost. The watch has now been found and retnrned to the famly under most unusual eircumstances. On Wednesday evening a young man, who was making his way from Napier to the south by road, called at Mt Denne 's mineral water factory, and while having a drink noticed the name "T. C. Denne" on the label of the bottle. This eau&ed him to ask if anyone in the family had lost a wrist wateh. On hearing the story the stranger offered to take them to where the watch was lying at the roadside, about half-way between Otane and Waipawa. He told them it was badly broken and that he had picked up the case and noticed the name, " J. C. Denne" on it before throwing it down again.Mr I. Denne, brother of the deceas* ed, immediately got out his car and took the stranger baek to the spot where he had noticed the case, A search in the vicinity revealed the case in oue place, the works in another, nttd the chain, which had held it on the wrist, in yet another spot. How it came to be there and in sueh a condition can only be surmised, ss the fatal accident occurred some miles further south between Waipawa and Waipukurau,
