Hon. R, Semple's Rcply to Grievances CONFUSION ~OVER CAMP

HAMILTON, This Day. A denjal that he had refused to hear a deputation of Publie Works men ai Pukerau was madq by the Hon. R, Semple to-4ay. The Minister said he had confused Pukerau Camp in his first statement with anpfcher camp he h^d visifced 40 miles away. He had jusi learned from Mr Kelliher, works eng|, heer at Dunedin, that while he was ai Gore two men from Pukerau tsav Kelliher -over the complaint and, after discussion, seemed satisfied. \ Mr Semple said he had visited the disfrict on February 11 and the jofc had onjy just started then, so thai there would be little time for any grievanpqs. Any wet weather took placf after his visit, "Instead of airing their grievances through proper channels tbey had rushed into print and blamed me for ihe wet weather," added Mr Semple. "1 am always ready to hear bpna fide complaints and put the matter right, but obviously it's impossible for me to hear minor grievances. That is why the proper machinery, through the engineers, is provided."
