(Napier lost, by the death this morning of Mr Sam, Harris, one of its bestknown and most esteemed citizens, 3?he late Mr Harris came to Napier many years ego, from London. Of a very progressiv© spirit it was not lpng^ befpre Mr Harris recognised th« possibilities pf estabijshing a cap factory, which he did, heginning in a small way In. Market street, Napier, h'rom the outset the venture was a euccess, for Harris caps, were pf a style and quality equal to the imported, The business grew rapidly, the Napiermanufactured papa gaining a great popularjty throughout the" Donjinion, and it was soon evident that larger preanisea were requirpd, sp the site of the present factory in Station street was gecured, Other descriptions of hats and caps wer© addod to the original styles and. au ever- increasing demand througliput the Hominion fqr "Harris" products, caused the factory to grow apace and it js now: the most important industry of its kind ti New Zealand. Of h, warm-hearted, kindly and sociabje charaeter, the late Mr Harris mada many stauneh friends, while he Wa,j ever ready to assist in any publie spirited movement. His private benefactions were many, and h© Will be greatly missed hy a large eircle of friends and acquaintances. He leaves a widow? three daughters, Mrs Phil. Schneideman and Mrs Lust, pf Wellington, and Mrs Mark Lewis of Invercargill, ana one son, Mr Jack Harris, of Napier, to> all of whom ip their bereavment ihe deepest sympathy of their many friends will be extended, The funeral will take place to-mor-row morning at 11 o'clock. The Chief Rabbi, the Rev. S. Eat?;, is comiug from JVellingt^n to perform the ceremony.
