GEEYMOUTH, Last Night, An unprecedented mining wages claim of considerable interest, in which the Eunu Fiat Gold Dredging Company wero the defendants, represented by Mr. H. F. O'Leary, ELG., of Wellington, was heard in the Warden's Conrt at Hokitika to-day by Mr. Eaymond Ferner, S.M., when Gharles McLean, a dredge employee, represented by Mr. P. J. O'Eegan, of Wellington, claimed £94 13s, allegedly due as wages for Sunday work over a period of six years. McLean claimed under Section 268 of the Mining Aet that he was entitled to time and a-half for Sundays. ,The case was a test case, as 38 otfier eniployers are in a similar position. Mr. O 'Eegan said he did not know till. recent conciliation proceediags that they were entitled to time and a-half on Sundays. Mr. 0,JLeary calied evidjAce by Mr. |W. J. Eadford, general mafi&ger of the i company, who claimed that the wages > paid to Mareh 31,. 1934, were at a higher rate, thus compensathig for Sundays, .and that the £20 per mohth paid since inclttded Sundays. Mr. Ferner reserved his decision.
