ROYAL PURPLE VELVET FOR QUEEN ELIZABETH'S ROBE
Queen Elizabeth, when she ia crowned as Queen Consort with King George VI. at Westminster Abbey on May 12, will wear a robe of Royal purple vejvet, with cords and tassels of gold aftd 'a cape of ermine, states the ''Daily Mail." TJnder her robe, which will have a train 18ft. long, she will wear a white Satin gown, exquisitely embroidered in silver and gold. The presence of a Queen at the Coronation will make a difference to the appearance0 of the peeresses, who in their deep crimson velvet robes and kirtles will provide a rich backgfround for her Majesty's purple robe. When a Queen is crowned peeresses wear coronets, instead of tiaras, as is the case at the coronation of a bachelor king. Metal portions of a coronet — which costs from £15 to £40 — are of silver gilt, the cap is of crimson velvet tufrned with ermine, and has a' gold tassel on top. It is placed on the head of a peeress at the actual moment that the Queen is crowned.
