Pahiatua and Stratford Engagements FAST WORK YESTERDAY

PALMERSTON N. This Day. The weather was line lor track . work at Awapuni yesterday morning hut there was a chilly hreeze. The going was good and the flags were well out past the centre of the course proper. There was a fair amount of f ast work in which horses racing at . the Pahiatua and. Stratford meetings attracted uost attention. Among the iirst to work w«e Wild Flower (W. J. Broughton) and Laughing Chief (G. Tattersall), the yonngsters ecampering over five furlongs in the fair time of 1.6 1-5. Wild Flower, who is going to Stratford was in front at the finish and she was doing her work very easily. Bodyline (S Anderson) galloped sevenj furlongs on his own and after taking i 15 second for the first furlongs, he came home the last six in 1.21, and the littla ; f ellow was bowling along very sweetly ! at the finish. Cerne Abbas was exercised by, Broughton on the plough. She looksi well and she will do her Easter racing. at Ellerslie. Bluffer ' ( J. Rae) wasted no time in a flutter over five furlongs for the distance was cut out in the smart .time oi 1.5 1-5. Ingenuity (J. Chaplin) and Vonia. Park (D. Mansfield) had a great go over; a mile and the issue was in doubt untilt the post was reached. Vonia Park set, the early pace but Ingenuity had drawn! level at the three and the pair werostill on terms when they turned intoi the home streteh. From then on theyi weTe neck and neck and Vonia Park,, with a final dab, got the verdict by a; narrow margin despite the fact that Mansfield liad lost an iron. The timo for the full distance was 1.50 1-5, the, last six took them 1.22 and the last. five 1.9 1-5. Silver -River (Tattersall) had( Aurora 's Love (Anderson) as a companion over half a mile, and the speedy'. Silver River was in front doing it easily at the finish after taking 52 2-5. The Traetor-Butterscotch gelding, (Anderson) was in front of Tribesman; (P. Rae) at the end of five furlongs, the last half mile of which took 55 4-5. Bun Fight (Tattersall) movtd well in a five-furlong sprint which took 1.6. Bun Fight is to race at Pahiatua. The 3-year-old daughter of Hunting Song and Paonui (J. Chaplin) sprinted three furlongs with ' Beaulac (Mansfield) and they wasted little time in getting to the post in 38 3-5. j Manawa tu (Anderson) beat 'Chat j (Ghisholm) over a mile run in 1.52 2-5, ' the former finishing very nicely. The only pair to jump before the interval were Forest Glow (Parkes) and Evermore (W. J. McDowell) and they were given a round over the schooling fences. They took the first one a bit seratchily but from that on they jumped very well. It was a good work out and there was plenty of pace on. Corroboree (R. Chisholm), who has had some bark knocked off in the float, strode along smoothly over half a mile which took him 53 secs. Martara, looking nOne the worse for his races at Trentham, was given easy ' exercise! Plants for Easter, G. Thomson will ride at the Feilding meeting (first day) and he will then go on for two days racing at Christchurch. At Feilding he has been engaged for Gay Boy and he will ride either Bazaine or Sporting Song in the hurdles. He will pilot Red Sun at Riccarton. W. J, McDowell will be on Forest j Glow at Stratford. W. J. Broughton will be in the saddle ,at Pahiatua, having been engaged for Lapel in the Cup, Lady Ina, Collodion and Royal Record, and for War Lap in the Hack Cup on the second day. G. Tattersall will sport silk at Pahiatua, his mounts including Bun - Fight, Ingenuity, and Gay Molly. S. Anderson will be at Pahiatua, his engagements being for Money Raid, Geelong and Wasteland. He will be at Feilding for Easter. Broughton will be at Auckland for Easter and he will pilot Mazir, Haut * Monde, Francis Drake, Cerne Abbas and Relative. W. Pine will have three horses racing at the Feilding meeting. They are Dungarvan, Beaulac and Aurora 's Love. L. Knapp is to take Wild Flower, Forest Glow and Tail Light to the Stratford meeting.
