ANNIVERSARY DAY

Move for Unlversal Date HASTINGS BUSINESSMEN MEET "We have already supported a move for a universal anniversary day throughout New Zealand and I feel this covers the matter," remarked the chairman, Mr W. E. Bate, at 1 'd; evening's meeting of the Hastings Chamber of Commerce, when the Dannevirke Chamber announced its intention of soliciting the support of the Hawke's Bay Employers' Association and the chamber s of commerce throughout the province to have the date obscrved for Anniversary Day altered. It \Vas decided to reply that the Chajnber supported the fixing of a universal day for the whole Dominion. ' A welcome was. cxtended by the chairman to Mr Hunter, manager of the Bank of Australasia, who was pTesent at- the meeting as a guest of the Chamber. A supply of the publicity booklets for the East Coast, in which Hastings advertisers had taken a number of pages, was received and a large number distributed throughout ihe district. A. suggestion that an Empire Shopping Day shon'd bo held on a suitable date about Coronation time, Empire Day on May 24 being specially favourable, was received frota the British Empire Lekgue, London, with a request that the Chamber consider the proposal. It was decided to refer the matter to the Hastings Retailers ' Association.
