Detective B. Farqoharson HASTINGS PRESENTATTON Members of the Hastings Police Fora?' *nd representativeB of the Hastings Coarthouse staff assembled at the Police iL-ition last evening to a presentation to Detective Bennet Farquharson, who will shortly be taking over as offieer-in-charge of the Havelock North sub-station after aerving jnst over eight years in the detective branch at Hastings. High tribute was paid to Mr Farquharson on all sides, his associates i expressing their deep appreciation of his services as a police officer and of his relations with his fellow-members as a .man. In making the presentation of an electric toateter and also of a kettle, Senior-Sergeant G. Sivyer said that Detective Farquharson had given every satisfaction as a detective. While he t* had been in Hastings he had been 'called upon t'o do many difficult tasks and he had perfonned those duties in a y most satisfactory manner. Even before coming to Hastings he had had an exceptionally busy and difficult time and had ako carried out that work successfully. It was anticipated, he said, that Mr Farquharson would now have the oppor. tunity of recovering the good health he once possessed, and in this regard all his associates desired to assure him that they sincerely wished him the best i of good health and happiness, both £«r himself and for Mrs Farquharson. On behalf of the Court staff, Mr W. M. Will expressed resret that Mr Farquharson was leaving. "Our relations during the past eight years have been of the very best," he said, "ana Mr Farquharson has revealed himself a zealous police officer and a genial assoCiate." Constables W. S. Craigie, R. Bradley and R. Goodson, who had been associated with Mr Farquharson during almost the whole of his eight years in Hastings, voiced appreciation of the happy times they had spent with him, and said that they had found him a fine work-mate. Other members of th© staff endorsed the remarks, and the gathering concluded with the singing of "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow" and expressions of good luck and health and happiness.
