JAPANESE ATHLETES

Appearance in Napier Under the auspices of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association a sports meeting has been arranged to be held on McLean Park, Napier, on Tuesday evening next, at which .the two Japanese athletes now toiiring the Dominion will make their appearance, Murakoso, the distance xunner, is undoubtedly in the front rank of distance runners in the world to-day, and qnite possibly is the best over a lengthy distance. He has so far given Nctz Zealanders a taste of his quality by

setting new ngures in some oi tne events in which he has run. Murakoso has expressed a desire to make an attempt on the two-mile record of 9min, 20sec. standing to the credit of Randolph Rose. It has not taken Murakoso very long to learn that McLean Park provides one of the fastest tracks in New Zealand, and he wants to make an attempt on the record. Togami, the other Japanese, wiU appear in the Mgh jump, long jump and hop, step and jump n all of which he ■ is a first-flighter and in the last two events has some sterling performances to his credit. An additional attraction and one that will open the programme, will be the attempt by Ian Driscoll, on the two-mile walking Tecord. It being essential that this attempt should be made in daylight, the sports on Tuesday evening will start at 6.30 o'clock instead of the nsual time. A varied programme of athletic events will also be provided, and for cyclists _ the main attraction will be the contest for the Swailes Cup. Patrons are thu-s given a donble attraction, of seeing two attempts on records, and quite possibly two records broken. These features should be sufficient to ensnre a packed grandstand on Tuesday night, for the programme is one that is unquestionably in the super class.
