BOXING

Hastings Bout on Monday On Aionday night, at the Municipal Theatre, Hastings, "Young" Gildo, qhe flashy Filipino featherweight, meets Al Stockj the popular Hawke's Bay lightweight, in a special contest. This bout does not come as a surprise, as their previous tw0 meetings, staged in Auckland last month were so closely contested and interesting that it was inevitable that other enterprising associations would want to match the pair again. Gildo has definitely shown that he Was in. no way overrated as a fastuioving, hard-punchiug and ulusi\e opponent. He is the type that is a delight to all boxing i'ans, for ixe has that ring- personality and ability that goes to make the i-eal champion. He is fully extended by Stock's well-known pugnacious and determined ruggedness and in conseqnence their meetings are very popular, as evidenced by the fact that in Auckland the first and return meetings attracfed exceptionally big houses. A first-class programme of amateur bouts, including a special contest for Jack Davls against Vie Colteaux, oi I Auckland, for which Mr Dp,n Haines, { of Whakatu, has donated a generous trophy, and an exhibition by Billy Martin, a brilliant Australian professional welterweight. The box p!an is now open at Donovan's tobacv-.-.uist saloon, Hastings.
