ATTEMPTED SUICIDE
Napier Man in Poor Circumstances On a charge of attempted suicide on February 10, a man, whose name was ordered to be suppressed, appeared before Mr J. Miller, S.M., in the Napier Magistrate's Gourt this morning. He was convicted and ordered to come up for sentehce if,called npon within one year. Sergeant G. F. Bonisch said that accused, who ploaded guilty, had come to Napier at the beginning of the year, and (sinee that time had been living alone in poor circumstances. He became depressed through want of money and inability to obtain work and gashed his throat and both wrists. He suggested that he be remanded for a week for medical observation, and further treatment to his wounds. There was a man in court who was willing to take accused into his home while work was found for 'him. "I think it was just the condition I happened to be in at the time on aecount of being stranded in Napier and the fact that I had a pretty hard spell for the last few months," said accused when asked for his explanatiou. ' ' I'm very sorry now, and I think it was just an act of foolishness." "He seems now to realise the position," said the Magistrate. "He appears to have a good friend in tlie gentleman who has come forwaTd. 1 will convict and order him to come up for sentenee if called upon, but the hospital expenses will have to be paid. I will also make an order for the supp'resslon of the name — it is nsual to do it in these cases. "(To the accused) That will give you a fresh start."
