MR CHARLES RATJEN

The death has occurred in Auckland of Mr. Ciiarles J. If. Katjen, of Pukekohe and formerly of Auckland, a wellknown chemist, assayer and optician, aged 69. Mr. Katjen served for a number of years on the Pharmacy Board. He formerly travelled for MessrB. Kempthorne, Prosser and Company, Auckland, and afterward entered into business as a chemist in Queen street, and also established a geological laboratory in High street. Later he sold his business and went to New York on a health trip. He returned to New Zealand and was a partner in a business in Napier for some time, later managing Messrs. Sharland's pharmacy in Shortland street, Auckland. In 1924, he purchased a pharmacy at Pukekohe and conducted it until his death. He is survived by his wife.
