Monthly Meeting Held

WAIPAWA, This Day. The monthly meeting of the Waipawa Borough Council was held last night, the'Mayor, Mr C. G- E. Harker, presiding over Messrs H. T. Limbrick, F. Eagle, F. R. Furminger, J. R. Barker, E- MacGregor and W. M. Murray. The Borougih Overseer, Mr R, Petherick, was also in attendance. A grant of £2 2/- to the Waipawa Volunteer Fire Brigade was approved. The Commissioner of Transport wrote advising that the services of Traffic Inspector W. E. YTates would still be available to the borough, but he had referred the matter to the Highways Board. The services of both inspectors iu the district would be available as testing officers. The Mayor stated that the mattei of the dedication of a small portion oi land in High street had been investigatcd and a special order had been passed. A resolution of sympathy with tiie relatives of the late Mr C. J. Nairn, a member of the Patangata County Council was passed in silence. The Waipawa District High School Committee wrote requesting the council to further consider the matter of the annual charge for water supplied to tke school, at present £10. with a view to granting a further reduction, and forwarding particulars of charges' ruling in other centres. — The Mayor said that it had been the wish of past councils that the school water suppiy should be metered, so that the school could have full benefit of the free allowance. Mr Eagle moved that a charge oi £5 be made on condition that the committee installed meters at once, this being carried. The Waipawa Citizens' Library • wrrote making application tor an annual grant for the years 1935 and 1936 and forwarding audited accounts for these periods, also a repot't covering operations. The committee also sought the assistance of the council' s officers in preventing irresponsible persOns from interfering with the papers. Mr Eagle moved that two years' grants be paidThe Waipawa Plunket Committee's application for the usual half-j'early grant of £13 was authorised. The engineer reported as follows:— The team has been engaged in carting to Jull'Park, carting sand to the yard, tar to Waverly, Bibby and High atreets and in nietalling Collins street. Tho usual grading aud rubbish cartage has beeu done for the month. Two culvertg have been put in Jull Park in High street. The inain sewer drain in Johnson street has been cleaned. Forty yards of sand have been-screened for tarring the following footpaths: — 42 chains in Bibby" street, 12 chains in Waverly street, 20 chains in High street. Tho gas' plant worked two hours during the month, the eleetric plant is in good rhnning order. Repairs to water pipes in High street and Ruataniwha road have been made. One new stop-cock has been put in in High street. The iire plug in Kenilworth street has been repairetL. The stone fencing in Jull road has been completed, the ground has been well worked and is now ready for sowing. The traffic inspector reported as follows: — One applicant for a motor-cyele liccnse and one for a motor car license were lested and passed. Attention to traffic duties has been ihe routino work done for the month.
