National Leader Speaks to Business Men HEIP IN WRITING POLICY

(By Telegraph-

AUCKLAND, Last Night. An appeal to the business pommunity to help thq Natiqnalist Party to frame a policy for the next general eleption that would be in the best lnterqsts qf thq responsible voters of New Zealand, whom he named as a sound combinaT tion of the business element and faymers, was made by the Hon. A. Hamilton, Leader of the Opposition, in a lun* cheon address to the New Zealand Institute of Business Executives. Describing the Government as thq most important business in New Zealand, Mr Hamilton said politics were interesting and serious, although not an exact science like ordinary business. "The management of the country might best be xun on business lines if that be at all practicable, but jt is not,,J said Mr Hamiltqn. "It would be better if party politics were qverthrown and seetional governipent abolisbed and the people elected Yepre? sentatives like directors to conduct the business for the country 's good as a whole. It is not possible, however, for one candidate to express the viervpoints of every person in his constituency. Politicians are the outcome of the people 's ehoice. A great difficulty is the difference of opinion between town and country interests. We should all be sufficiently interested in one another's welfare to be tolerant apd work for the common good. "A democraey is best. A diptator is not wauted in New Zealand, which waats to be managed by a majority vote, aud we ask the people to express this effeetively and truly at the elections. The present Government reaHses the advantages of demoeracy and it has won by organisation and diseipjine. We have to take cognisanee of this, because democraey is here to stay. "I am not against the working man, but X maintain that those best fitted to govern are men who by ability and experienee have gradnated from the botfom to executive positions. Why, if the men now in power arq regarded to be the best qualified to manage New Zealand, were they not managing some business before they entered Parliament? " We are lookiug for "the future braius of our eountry among the potential business managers, 3 J said Mr Hamilton. "We want tbem to write a poliey that will hold the business community togetber. We have set out to do this and hope for success. The

Nationalist Party does nQt want to get haek into office if the people find their confidence flies in the work of the Labour Party. We will admire them for their choice if that ia the case, but do we always feel that thq preservation of our Individuality and security is safe? ''It is about time New Zealanders took hold. qf themselves and put up a fight to run their own country,'1 concluded Mr Hamilton. "No gensration has qnjoyed a better standard of livi'ng than we have to-day, and we want' to make sure it does not sRp from us. We must organise the responsibile, vote into a united fighting maehine afid then I believe we ought to win. "
