'HPP ■ ■ ■ ~ Tributes Paid to Mr J. P. O'Reilly OFFICERS FPR 1937. Tributes to the enthufliastic mterest taken in the affairs of the Maraenui Golf Club since its inception six years ago by the retiring secictary-treasurer, Mr J. P. O'Reilly, were paid by the president of the club, Mr John' Mason, at the annual general meeting last night. Mr O'Reilly has resigned frdta office because he has taken over the proprietorship of the Tarawera Hotel, but the club has declined to let hiin go unrewarded, and so he has been made the first life member. He waa also presented with a wallet of bank notes as a token of the cluh's. appreciation of his services. During the course of some eugolistio remarks concerning Mr O'Reilly's past enthusiasm, Mr Mason expressed the view that the fact that the club waa in such a satisfactory position, finaticially and otherwise at the present time, was largely due to the capabilities o| the past secretary-treasurer. Mr Mason's remarks wero endorged by the past vice-president, Mr H. L. Benjamin. and by other members of the club. The position of secrotary treasurer has been accepted by Mr TV Lambie, who was accorded a welcome last night Nearly 100 members were present at the annual general meeting, at which it was announced that about a doexn golfers had applied for admission to the club as members and that their applications would be considered at tho first meeting of the new committeo The electjon of officers resulted &a follows: — ^President, Mr John Mason; vice-president, Mr E. H. N. Stewart ; cantara, Mr H. R. Gasson; secretarytreasiuer, Mr W. Lambie; committee, Messrs N. W. Smith, F. D. Logan, F. R. S. Ashton, R. Duthie and W. B, Taylor; hon- auditor, Mr H. Bull. The 1937 season will begin to-morrow week, when a mixed foursome competition is to be played.
