GEORGE PRICE

At Riding Weight Agaiin Riding is a lucrative profession to those successful, but most are forced out of it througn increasing weight, says the Melbourne Sporting Globe. If appearances count for. anything, George Price, the well-known trainer, could make a come-back and go to scale at a weight that would ensure him many mounts. Since his recent severe illness, Price has lost his stoutness, and his old New Zealand friends remarked at Caulfield recently that he looked like the Price they knew as a leading jockey in the Dominion 30 years ago. Price was a leading light-weigbt when 12 years of age, proceeds tho same writer. After retiring from the saddle he trained privately for a titled(?) la'dy, and when she sold out her racing interests, Price was on the look out for a new post. About that time Dick O'Donnell was thinking about setting up as a trainer after 25 years as Dick Mason's right-hand man. An enthusiast named Duncan was entering racing in a big way, and he tossed up to see who should take charge of his horses. His choice fell on O'Donnell, who took over a string of high-priced thoroughbreds that turned out an ordinary lot. The late Ned Moss caiue along and persuaded Priee to go to Sydney, and the clever little Now Zealander has traiued the winners of everv race worth while. The Caulfield Futurity Stakes and Essendon Stakes with Gold Rod were just two more. That's the luck of racing. "We have enjoyed our meals imraensely — since wo've been staying in Napier. May we have some of your business cards? We shall surely send along our friends." The above remarks wero xuade to the management of the "Trocadero" yesterday. Nuff sedl®
