Pahiatua Mayor Sues Councillor
(By Telegraph-
PAHATUA, This Day. A reserved decision has been received from Mr T. L. Stout, S.M., in the libel action taken by tlie Mayor of Pahiatua, Mr James Donald Wilson, against a follow councillor, Mr Daniel Moriarty, claiming £100 damages as th© result of a letter written by the defendant and published in the Pahiatua Herald, wherein Mr Wilson alleged by implication dishonesty by reference to "betrayal of the trust of the ratepayers" and an attack on his character by reference to tho writer's protest against the Mayor 's attitude concerning the half-holiday question in Pahiatua, which was descnbed as being likcf "casting pearls before swiue." Mr Stout held that the plninti® should be non-suited because no proof was given in court that Mr Morlafty actually wrote the letter; also, that the espressions used by the defendantj while being abueive and in bad taste, were not libellons. Costs were allowed on tecale.
