Sharp Rise For Sheep

AUCKLAND, Last Night. A marked increase in the number of fat cattle was penned at Westfield today and resulted in a decrease of 7a per lOOlbs, in beef values for the first time in seven weeks. The quality was good, but the bidding was slack and prices were from 5s to 10s a head easier. Extra choioe ox made 33s to 34s; chr^ce and prime 29s to 33s; secondary anfi plain, 24s to 29s. Prime cqw and heifer beef brought from 25s to 80s; ordinary. 16s to 24s. Heavy steers brought £11 to £13; lighter, £9 to £11 5s; small and unfinished, £5 10s to £8 15s. Heavy oqws and heifers, £6 10s to £9 7s 6d; lighter, £4 10s to £6 17s 6d; unfinished £2 10s to £4 5s. A smaller entry of sheep was offered, but the quality suffered nothing in coneequence adn values rose sharply by as mueh as 3s per head. Fewer- lambs alsp sold readily and improved about 2s' a head. Heavy wethers made 28s 6d tq 35s ; lighter, 24s to 29s ; unfinished, 20s to 25s 9d ; maiden ewes 26s to 32s ; heavy 20s to 26s 3d ; lighter, 18s to 21s 6d ; unfinished 7s to 18s 6d. Prime lambs, 20s to 33s ; unfinisbed, 10s 6d to 20s 9d. A full yarding of good quality calves came forward. Bidding was steady for extra chqice sorts,. but values, were easier by about ls on last week's reduced rates for inferior grades. Runners made £2 10s to £6 15s. Heavy vealers; £3 15s to £5 3s; medium. £3 to £3 18s; light, £2 to £2 18s; smaller £1 13s to £2 ls; unfinished, 18s to £1 2s; bobby and rough, 3s to 15s.
