ROUND TABLE CLUB

j Napier Body's Trial Scheme j EXCHANGE OF 1DEAS j ! A few months' trial to a scheme iramed withi the idea of encouraging the exchange of ideas among members rather than of ljstenjng to addressea by non-members is to be given by the Napier Round Table Club. At yesterday's fortnightly luncheon it was decided that at further gatherings a a speakea- with a month' s warning would be cahed upon to speak on any topic he chose, following which other members would be invited to offer their criticisms. The opinion that last year's policy of inviting non-members to give addresses might be improved upon by giving members themselves more opportunities of voicing their ideas on various topies was expressed by Mr H. S. Triggs, who moved "that the future policy of the club be the interchange of ideas , among members and that in pursuance of this policy the following procedure be adopted: (a) A member deliver an address not exceeding 15 minutes at ■ oach luncheon ; (b) at the conclusion j criticism be invited from other memj bers ; (c) each speaker shall have the option of withholding his xemarks from being published in the Press; (d) the executive shall reserve the right to depart from the above procedure should any special occasion warrant it." While the majority of members favoured the idea, the view was expressed that the club should not tie up its future policy for a whole twelve months. A decision was then reached to the effect that ideas outlined in the motfon be given a trial, at the conclusion of which the motion would re- , ccive further consideration. . The club further decided to select ' speakers' names at random and to give . each speaker a month's notice that he will be called upon to gLve his address.
