Mr T. H. McCombs, M.P. for Lyttei* ton, ls at present visiting the Waitomo eleptorate, where he will epend about 10 days. Mr J. B, Price has takou up his duties as assistant branch manager of the Shell Company of New Zealand at Napier. Mr Price was formerly of thp Dannevirke branch. . Canon Mortimer-Jones, viear of St. Matthews ' Chureh, Hastings, Jef t ' by the mail train this morning for Wellington en route to the Old Country on a holiday visit. There was a big crowd of parishioners and friends at the station to bid him bon voyage. The Hon, W. E, Parry, Minister of Internal Aft'aira, is representing the Go vernment at the opening of the mimi, cipal conference, which took piace at Timaru yesterday. Subsequently ihe Minister will vi'sit other centres of the South Island on business copneeted with the department under his control, Mr E. L. Cullen, M.P., leaves Hastings on Friday for Rotorua when he will join the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, who is to make an inveetigation into the affairs of the Arawa Trust Board,, native development worka and other matter coneerning the welfare of the" Maoris in that district. Mr Cullen will be absent about a week. , , In moving a motion of sympathy wi,th the relatives of tne late Mr J. C. Nairn, the chairman of the Patangata County Council, Mr C. Pattison, said at a meeting of that body yesterday that Mr Nairn had taken a very keen interesf in the work of the council and All matters connected with farming. He waa particularly active in the Pourerere Riding where he was very highiy esteemed. Mr Pattison added that he felt sure his place would be a very hari one to filL The Hon. H. T. Armstrong, Minister of Labour; who wi^l accompany the Prime Minister on the northern tour, has completed arrangements for his official trip to Geneva, where he will represent the New Zealand Government at the International Labour Conferenco. Mr Armstrong will ieave Wellington by the Awatea on April 6 for Sydney, where four days later, he will take passage in an Orient liner for Naples. From that city the Minister will travel overland through Northern Italy and France, en route to London, arriving there on May 11, a day before the King ',s Coronation. He will be accompanied by Mrs Armstrong antl his private secretary, Mr W- S. Shanly. ;
