"The mihd that devised this calendar,'* Dr, Breasted reported, 4,put social and economic needs first, and divorced the calendar from celestial processes." Since the calendar did not depond on the movements of tho moon, each month contained thirty days, which, together with five holidays, made a year of 365 days, causing a dis_ crepancy of ono day each four years.
