BUTTER STRONGER
Bradford Tops Expected to Rise N,Z. LAMB VERY FIRM LONDON, March 7. The London wool saies gave a useful lead to Bradford. Though business is quiet it is expected that a giood deal of trade at higher levels will be brought out during the next few weeks, provided London remains firm. The general opinion is that the top values recorded in the middle of February will prove the lowest of the season. The earlier weak selling is now seen to have been wholly unjustified and responsible traders are so confident that they refuse to sell tops, the prices differing more than a shade from wool. Butter showed unexpected etrength and holders are reluctant to sell in view of the comparatively short quantities of Empire available. The new • season's New Zealand lamb is firm, contrary to expectations, as arrivals are very heavy. Australian lamb is also in heavy supply and met an easier market. There were slow saies of chilled beef but a steady demand for frozen sorts, of which only small quantities were available.
