n ua •UW 9 1 Brandon-Jago Cup NAPIER oli EVENT The Napier EOWing Club conducted the first of its series of competitions for the Brandon-Jago Cup presented by two old members of the club. Three crewa competed aB follows: — No. 1 crewi H. Bensan, L. Dugleby, E. Carew, D. Kyle} No. 2 crew: J Finlay, G. Silverwood, F. Austin, H. Clappertonj No. 3 creW: E. Oross, E Poynter, P. Kay, F. Spackman, The first heat was between Behson's and Finlay 's crews, but the latter gaitted an advantage by drawing the inside positiott, across from which a strong wind was blbwing, thns affeeting the outside crew more than thi> crew which was sholtered by the bank ea that eide. However, the race was & good one, Findlay'S Crew winning by half a length. In the final between Finlay 's' and Cross 's creWS the latter had the gbod fortune to dr&w the inside position, and though this probably did not affect the resuit, it no doubt conttibutea to CrosB '& crew gaining an easy victory by six lengths. .
