HASTINGS JUNIORS
The Hastings High School first Xl^ and their second XI. met on Saturday when the former, after winning the toss, declared When two wickets had fallen for 10A (MeDowell 66 not out, Barkle 37 no! out)., Fulton captured the two fallen wickets. The second XI. surprised their opponents by annexing 101 runs before the last man was dismissed Fulton 36, Horton 23, Anderson 18) thus the first 's won by 11 runs. MeDowell (four for 28) bowled best for the winners. Whakatu proved too good for Otane at Nelson Park. When batting first they aecumulated the healthy total of 271 (Mitchell 40, L. Love 50, v J. Goodal] 73, B. Johnson 15, J. Alexander 48, T. Goodall 20). Bellis was the visitors' most succesBful trundler. Otane were dismissed for 128 (Stephens 24, Drinkrow 27, Phillips 15, McAuslan 14). T. Goodall lowled best for Whakatu. Otane followed on, but managed to play out time when losing three wickets for 80. Fruitgrowers gave Hastings a good drubbing when winning by an inningB and 16 runs in an all round low-3coring game. Hastings had first Visit to the wicket to be dismissed for the moderate 52 with no double-figure scorers. Fruitgrowers tally amounted to 121 (B. Keong 13, Southcott 35, O. TaylOr 15, B. Galbraith 14, S. Geake 11). Hastings failed to avert the innings' defeat as the last wicket fell with the score board showing but 53 (Goedall 21, Colebrook 16). The veteratt Geake who at one time of his cricket career clean bowled the one and only Victor Trumper, was in great form with the ball for Fruitgrowers capturing no less than fourteen wickets at a cost of 51. Keong four for 27 and Heenan one for six also took wickets for the winners.
