MODEL AEROPLANE
Successful Dentonstration Held SIGNS 0FPR0GRESS (By "Assembly") Hastings people during this week-end have had their first opportunity of fully and quietly studying the work of th© local model-builders and by the reports to hand the membership of this club will be greatly increased by the interest aroused from the display. "Assembly" had a look at th& exhibits previous to the opening ceremony on Monday last and was agreeably surprised at the quality, very much surprised at the quantity and thoroughlly satisfied with the enthusiasm demonstratecl; in putting on this show in such finQ style. The Mayor's speech prior to declaring the show open was very enlightening, stressing as he did the pioneering spirit shown by the model builders as being on a level with tliat shown by pioneer flyers. Mr Cullen's interest was keen when he inapected the fine work and clean finish of one of the uncovered models preliminary to the opening ceremony, and "Assembly'' looks forward with greater hope to the day when we will receive Government recognition of our efforts and substantial help in training inotlel builders. .It is to be hoped that many parents and adults of both sexes saw this show before its final closing. They will have seen how great a. scope there is in model building for educating the young idea and in providing opportunities for the older ones of dofng advanccd building and flying. It is definitely not a schoolboy's play-hobby, but an opportunity for all, youug and old together, to demonstrate right thinking on scientific lines and according to principle, followed by exaet construetion and complete demonstration" of the workability of the ideas thought out and produced in the modeTs. The club, its executive, and those who accepted the club's invitation to assist -iu the ceremonies at the opening are deserving 'of the fullest public appreciation for bringing before all to see the great progress made in this country and particularly in Hawke's Bay in model aviation.
