J)lr Henry Leo Brown, secretary df tbe" Napier Watersiders' Union, died at tbe Napier Publio" Hospital yesterday afternoon. after a brief illness ; • He was 53 ydars of age. Tbe late Mr Bfown was dne of tbe best-known and most bigbly-respected residonts 6f Port Ahuriri, wher^ bad resided during tb© Whole of biS life. He received hxs education at the Mfijrist IBrothers' Miool in Napier, and in bik younger daye was a Rugby footbidler of m«ire tban average abillty, baviflg uorn tb© black afld Wjfite jersey of the Hawke's Bay representative team. He bad been s&ofetary of the Watersiders' UniOii for tbe past sevein or eigbt yeare, during wbich term he had adminiBtered the affaii'g of ihe organisatiOfl with markefl abiiiby. hlr Browfl was a man held, ifl ihe highest regard by all with whdm he associated. He was ever ready to atsist those ifl fleed, afld among ihe fflfiie commiiflity. of Port Ahuriri be ea jdyed the highest esteem and pdpiilSr-' ity. At the time qf the 1931 eaitbquake and also foilowiflg ihe Doris disaster, when a flumber of watersiders wero droWned, he was rCepOflSjbie for a tremendous amouflt oi work ifl the direction of assistingj di30.'is#sed and bereaved families. Mr JfcOWn, who was to ha*© bdefl marricd on Easter Saturday to Miss Betty BoliiSdh, daughter of Sergeant Cr. F. Bonisch, of Port Ahuriri, is sarvived by a number df reidtive# lesiding m various parts of Nev Zeaiand. His death will be deeply tik.urh 6'! by a wide circle of friends.
