Remarkable Developmeni "This is a wonderful country, and its development in 10O years is phenomenal," gaid Major-General Sir John Davidson to a Hamilton reported. The visitor, who is in the Dominion on a business trip in connection with the IJnion Bank of A'ustralia, of which he is chairman of directors, and Messrs Dalgety and Company, Limited, of which he is a director, had a distinguished war record. He was a member of the House of Commons for 13 years between 1918 and 1931. He added that one would think that New Zeaiand had been settled for centuries, so remarkable was its development. "Nobady in England who had not been out here would have the least idea of what the development was like. He said it was an "eye^opener" to him. He expressed himself as being very appreciative of the great kindnesg and hospitality he had received in every direction. "I think that the action of Great Britain in bringing her defence forces up-to-date is probably one of the greatest factors making for peace in Eruope," he added. In conclusion, he stated that he was delighted with New Zeaiand from every poitit of view and considered that it was second to none as a country to live in. He had particularly cnjoyed his stay iu DunecUn and Invercargill.
