A New Zealander abi'oad, Mr John Bootli, of St Helier's recently wrote to the editor of the Jersey Evening Fost, Channel Islands, submitting a specimen of the latest stamp iBsued by the New Zealand Post Office. It represents the head of a Jersey cow and the interior of a butter factory. The writer pointed out that Jersey was a market for New Zealand butter, but he doubted if those who used it realised that if was 95 per cent made from the milk of Jersey cows. He added that New Zealand had Shorthorns, Holsteins and Herefords, but the great bulk of the cattle kept for butterfat were Jerseys. Readers of the Jersey Evening Post could rest assurred that New Zealand butter Was the cleanest the world produced. peor In Wanaka District. Tn spite of the Government cullers having taken mor© than 22,000 deer from the Wanaka (Otago) district last year, the animals still abound there and are easily reached. A party of sportsmen from Pembroke was returning from a day's fishing at Makarora, and when a spot in the "Neck"/ between Lake Wanaka and Hawea, was reached, the driver of the car remarked to one of the passengers that it was just at this point that he had observed a .deer on a previous journey. He had hardly spoken when two stags were seen in almost the identical place. The car was brought to a standstill, about 100 yards from the deer, and, as the wind was blowing towards the car, one star was brought down with the first shot.
