Dcsconding from the brink of a cliff faco at Patea m search of a tyro which had been .discarded in error William I.acey, a carpenter, was swept from his hold on tbe rope by a i'all of earth and fell over a hundrcd feet to the beach where he was covered with debris. He was found buried in the debris. ■Several nicn releascd him and a docter was lowcred down tho cliif by a rope to render assistance. Tvventy men worhed for two liours hauling the injurcd man up the cliff on a motor-car cushion and ho was taken to tho hospital.
