Wananga Wins Redclyffe Handicap SON & HEIR'S STAKES The Napier Park Racing Olub'i autumn meeting opened at Greenmeadows to-day in'fine bufcloudy weather, whLch brightened during the aftemoon. The course is in excellent order, -ihe grounds being very atferactive. There is a very; satisfaetory attendance of the public, who were treated to an excellent afternoon's sport. Moclerate fields competed, providing interesting racing. The arrangements for the day were perfect, the eventa being run well on scheduled time. Musical selections were relayed through loud-speakers. The single-pool macbine was in operation on the totali.sator. Resultss— OMARUNUI HIGHWEIGHT. Of £100; li mile. 3 Mr. E. J. As they turned into the straight in ihe | run to th© post th© favourit© was un;.able to hold off the field closing on him. j Red Rufus caught him almost on the post, winning in a strong finishing riin by a short head. From a rather uneven despatch Sereen Star quickly went to the lead from Golden Memory, Airini, Cloak, Son and Heir and Only One, and at two furlongs Airini and Son and Heir moved into second an2 third places behind Screen Star from Cloak, Etzel and Only One. Running to th© far tum and entering the straight the order remainad unchanged, Onco settled down in the race to the post, the field swung into line. An exciting finish ensued, SorL and Heir pulling away from the challengers by Screen Star and the favourite, winning by over a lenglh.
