GUILD GARDEN CIRCLE MEETING AT THE PARK

The annual meeting of the garden circle of the Hastings Townswomen's Guild was held in (Jornwall Park on Monday afternoon. The attendance of members was good and the leader, Mrs J. B. Pickering, extended a welcome to all present. bhe mentioned the happy relations existing. between all members of the circle anu the team spirit which had made the year's work so successful. The financial statement which was presented was most satisfactory aad the annual report was as follows: — ' ' The first meeting of the circle. was held in Mrs L. J. Harvey 's garden, the attendance of members being very good. Floral demonstrations were given by soine of the members while others gave useful hints for combating insects. An invitation to visit the Wattie Canneries was accepted for the nest meeting and this proved most interesting. During the winter months the meetings were held in the Methodist Hall when the programmes Included a talk on rose culture by Mr Escort, a talk on Englisk gardens by Mr MacK.enzie, and a description of a visit to Dale's Nurseries by Mrs J. C. Tosswill. Mrs Wright, the leader of the Napier Townswomen's Guild garden circle, gave an ^njoyable talk on the growing of citrus fruits, giving many hints on how to combat pests. Mrs C. J. Baker gave a delightful talk on the growing of many kinds of bulbs, dealing ospecially with narcissi. With the return of the warm weather the circlo again met at Mrs L. J. Harvey 's, when Mrs C. Clark gave a demonstration on the making of bouquets and during her demonstration she gave many useful bints on floral work. An enjoyable afternoon was spent in Mrs Agnew's garden when Mrs H. W. C. Baird gave a talk on gardens that she had visited during her travels abroad, "The circle retains the trophiea won

the previous year at the Horticultural Society 's shows. The committee extends grateful thanks to all who have contributed to the programme in any way during the year and also to the ten hostesses." Mrs A. F. Glenny, the president of the Townswomen's Guild, then took the chair and the election of ofiicers followed. Mesdames L. J. Harvey, Kirkpatrick, Vaughan, Harold Davies, ,V. L. Westerman, J. B. Pickering and Miss Shaw were elected as committee. Mrs Glenny thanked and also qongratulated the members for the decorati,ve work which they had done on various o-ccasions during the year. 1 A vote of thanks was extended to the retiring committee members, Mesdames E. Y. Coinrie, Campbell and Miss Baird. At the conclusion of afternoon tea members enjoyed eeeing all the new beauty spots at the park and all agreed that the wealth of blooms to be seen were a great credit to those in charge.
