Keen Demand for Sheep

AUCKLAND, Last Night. First clatss quality ox beef nlaintained late values at Westfield to-day aud, in consequence of a smaller entry of cows and heifers, prices, which dropped last week, were firm. Extra choice lox sold at 34/- per 1001b.; choice and prime 30/- to 33/-; ordinary 25/- to 29/-; prime cow and heifer 26/- to 30/-; plain 17/- to 25/-; extra heavy steers £12 17/6 to £13 15/-; beavy £11 12/6 to £12 15/-; medium £10 to £11 15/-; light £8 to £10 15/-; unfinished £2,10/- to £4 10/-. Not many good quality sheep were offered in a smaller yarding but the demand was exceptionally keen. Wethers advanced ahout 1/- each and ewes were fully firm. Lambs had a ver'y free sale at late quotations, the offering being fairly restricted. Heavy wethers made 29/- to 31/9; lighter 24/- to 28/-; unfinished 18/- to 24/9; heavy ewes 20/- to 23/6; lighter 18/- -to 19/9; lighter 6/- to -L7/-; prime lambs 20/- to 31/6; unfinished 10/- to 19/9. The calf pens were well filled with good quality stock. The demand was not bo keen and values were easier by 2/- a head except in the case of light vealers. Rnnners made £2 to £6 10/-; heavy vealers £3 10/- to £4 7/-; medium £2 18/- to £3 10/—; light £2 to £2 16/-; smaller £1 8/- to £2 1/-; unfinished and bucket-fed 19/- to £1 14/-; bobby and rough 4/- to 15/-. . In sympathy with the lower schedule for export buying, pigs receded by 2/a head. There was a full yarding of good quality pigs. Choppers made £2 to £3; heavy baconers £3 9/- to £3 12/-; medium, £3 4/- to £3 7/-; light, £2 19/- to £3 2/-; heavy porkers £2. 8/- to £2 13/-; medium, £2 2/- to £2 6/-; light £1 15/- to £2 1/-; unfinished £1 4/- "to £1 14/-; Btores 12/- to £2 4/-; slips 7/- to 16/-; weaners, 3/to 9/-; baconers and porkers "averaged 5|d per lb.
