Attempt to Revive Sport There Fails MINISTER'S ATTITUDE
(By Telegraph-
BAJNJNmVlliiiii!, This Lay. The attempt to revive racing ... in Dannevirke has failed. The provisidnal eommittee of the newly-formed Dannevirke Jockey Club has deeided, in viow of th© attitude adopted by the Minister of Internal Affairs when approached by a deputation and the reply received by the guarantors of the Dannevirke Racing Club, that it finds it impossible to continue its efforts td revive the sport of racing in Dannevirke. It may be explained that the Dannevirke Racing Club, owing to its financial position, oeased to function. The Minister of Internal Affairs, when approached by a deputation of ' tlie ,new club on the- question of totalisator permits, informed them thaf the new club must make arrangements with the old club and "put its house in order" — in other words, that the new scheme must have the consent of every guarantor of the bank overdraft of the Dannevirke Racing Club. The guarantors of that club having declined to meet the deputation of the new club, the latter has deeided to disoontinue its efforts, notwithstanding the fact that it had over 600 members and was in a position to commence racing.
