Semple fo Inspect Taihape Route TOURIST POSSIBILITIES Motorists wko nave made tho trip from Napier to Taihape in the past well remember the atrenuous driving entailed on this road, and will voiiio ^atiafaction at hearing that ilnprove'rnents have now inade tkis road an allweather road, passable in botk wintor and summer. A long strebch of clay road in the Eangitikei county area has been done away with, and a metal road laid, but there is much" yet to be done to make this a tfoad that tke novice driver can tackle witk any degree of confidence. Many miles are still rough and rutted, necessitatin'g glow travelling, but tke experience is one wkich the traveller, with an eye to scenic beapty, eonsxders well worth tho trip. Eepresentations have been made to the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. E. Semple, to see if some meagure of aseistance can be granted by the Government to enable a good road to be constructed, and, on. his visit to tkis distri-ct early in Marck, it is koped that the Minister will be persuaded to travel the Toad and see what is required. J.t is the avowed intention of the present Governnjant to assmt in improving fcack-black roads, and this road certainly comes into this class. In addition the road, properly developed, would be a distinet asset to the district, opening up as it would a tourIst route which would undoubtedly bft an attraetion. The scenie route to Taihape would work well into tourist itiiteraries, and would allow tourist traffic to Napier and Taihape to be built up. From the viewpoint of agrieultural dCvelopment, a good rOad would be an assefc, ae the transporting of supplies to and produce from many of the stations on the Inland Patea is at present eostly and not always reliable, as spells of wet weather, causing washOUts, can make transpo.rt a difhcult problem. Mucli money is being spent on the improvement of theee proper5s, . and the settlers feel that they agM^be encouraged by the provision n better road.
