N.Z. TRADE WITH JAVA

Value of Direct Shipping Facilities. MUTUAL BENEFITS WELLINGTON, Last Night. ' The hope that the inauguration of direet shipping facilities between Java . and New Zealand would lead to more intensive tradiDg between the two countries was expressed to-day by Mr. T« Elink Schuurman, Consul-general for, the Netherlands in Australia and New Zealand. Mr. Schuurman, whose headquarters are in Sydney, left Wellington on his return to Australia by.the Awaitea after a five weeks' business and Jpleasure visit to the Dominion. xt was !hoped New Zealand would be able to get a greater share of trade in the Netherlands East Indies and more or less balance trade between Java and New Zealand. Once a shipping line was established it would be for New Zealand exporters to show initiative and enterprise and make the most of the opportunity to build up the market. It seemed there was quite an outlet for dairy produce aud meat. The opinion that a direct shipping line would also do much to f oster tourist traffic to the mu tuai advantage of the two countries was expressed by Mr. Schuurman. New Zealand people, he said, would have an opportunity to visit the East and people in the East an opportunity to visit the Dominion. The - two countries had extremes of climate and he felt there existed great possibilities for tourist traffic.
