First Meeting of the Year Held ADDRESS BY MR R. PAYNTER The Hastings Baptist Brotherhood held its first. meeting for the year on Monday, the gathering being presided over by the pi'esident, the Rev. C. B. Boggis, who led a eommunity sing followed by a short devotional session. Mr Ralph Paynter was then introduced, and he gave ail address on his travels abroad, which was both instructive and interesting. Mr Paynter paid tribute to the London police and their wonderful disciplining of the people. By the rqising of the harid all trattic was instantly stopped, whereas in France motor horns tooted and people manifested a great impatience and reluctance. He also described his visit to the great ship Queen Mary, whieh was the last thing. in luxury. He also witnessed the aero pageant where there were planes, ''old birds," the speaker tetmed them, ot 191U. Ail were il^ mg around the 'drome. He also Inentioned Hyde Park with its soap box orators, which he termed the salety valve oi the Enlpire. All creeds and "isms" had a vent, and in no other place m the world was there such freedom of speech.
