Archdeacon Butterfield a

WAIHOA, saturday. There was a large attendanco at St. Paul's parisfi hall on Thursday night to farewell the Ven. Archdeacon Butterfield. Mr B. de B. Hill, who presided, paid high tribute to the work of both the Archdeacon and Mrs Butterfield, and presented the xetiring vicar with a wallet of notes and Mrs. Butterfield with a brass fire screen. The Rev. N. H. Finch, speaking qn behalf of the Pretebyterians of Wairoa, and the Mayor, Mr H. L. Harker, also expressed their appreciation of the fina work of the Archdeacon. Mr Harker said he was glad to know that tha Archdeacon and his wife were to continue to reside at Wairoa. Archdeacon Butterfield, in replying, referred to some of his parish experiences, and expressed his appreciation of the work of the church officers. A welcome wa)s also extended to thn new incumbent, the Rev. T. W. Hyde, During the evening a varied programme *was presented, ineluding dancing, musical and elocutionary items. Miss Adsett and Mr Moles provided the dance music and Mr E, Wilson was accompanist. Among those who contributed were Mrs Bryant, Misls Edser. Messrs W. Mitchell (Napier), Manning and H. Eoberts. i _
