Annual Meeting Held PROFIT ON YEAR'S WORK • The annual meeting of the Hastings Orchestral Society was held in the Borough Council Chambers, Mr G. M. Eoach, the president, presiding, and tliere were about 30 members from Hastings and Napier in attendance, The balance sliee^ for the year showed a profit. Mr Roach, commenting on the balance sheet, said that he was very pleased to not that there were no outstandihg subscriptions and he congratulated the treasurer on his work in looking after the financial interests of the society. Mr Eoach then dealt with the very fine work done by tbe isecrotary during the year, and said that few people Tealised how much secretarial work there was conneeted with a society of this nature. Bewley, J. Sutcliffo, J. Lockyer, G. Husheer, J. Holt, E. L. Eyan, H. "W. Cf Baird, Dr. Bathgate, E. Paynter, T. E. O'Dowd and E. L. Cullen, M.P.; coriductor, Mr Cedric White; ho. leader, Mr E. Ingram; hon. secretary, Mr E. L. Eyan; asaistant secretary, Miss F. Bark; hon. librarian, Mr L. Abbott; hon. auditor. Mr Fi 'C. Wilkinson. It was proposed and acrried unariimously that Mrs T. E. O'Dowd and Mrs E. Paynter be hostesses for tho 1937 season. The president remarked on the action of the committee in renting the Municipal Theatre for the second concert last year, and he hoped that the society would be able to camy on hoTding its concerts in the theatre, as both players and listeners could enjoy the mnsic to a much greater extent than in the Assembly Hall. Mr Eoach, • however, said that to do this the society must have more Subscribing members nd he asked every member to endeavour to obtain at least one new member for 1937. The question of practice room and a practice night was left to the incoming committee. and the meeting closed witL a vote of thanks to the Borough Council for theuseof its meeting room.
