Ormondville Golf Olub. The opening of the Ormondville District Golf Club's season was attended by visitors from Takapau, Dannevirke and Norsewood clubs. In the absence of the president, Mr Searle Ellingham, Mr Onslow Baines welcomed the visitors and called on the ladies' captain, Mrs W. A. Trask, to drive off the first balL A Canadian foursome played over 13 holes was won by Mangin and partner with a score of 50, Mr and Mrs W. A. Trask being runners-up with 52. The following were the best cards handed in:— Mangin and partner 50, W. A. Trask and Mrs Trask 52, J. Fitzgerald and Mrs N. Fitzgerald 54, Bould and ' Miss M. Eendle 55, Lowe and partner 58, Waipukurau Card Evening. A flag "500'' evening held in the Fire Brigade Hall, Waipukurau, resulted in a win for Mr and Mrs P. Meredith and Mr and Mrs J. Dunlop. The funds were in aid of the brigade. Supper was served by the firemen's wives. Oddfellows' Order. ' A meeting of the Past Grands of the Hawke's Bay Iodges, N.Z.I.O.O.F., was held at Waipukurau, the District Deputy Grand Master (Bro. D. Turkington) presiding over an attendanee of about 60. Bro. Morris A. Danes, of Karamu Lodge, was elected District Deputy Grand Master for Hawke's Bay for the ensuing term. Arlington Rehekah Lodge provided supper. A £10 Fire. A Waipukurau married couple lost £10 through an unfortunate accident. The husband handed over two £5 notes of his wages to his wife, lceeping some loose change himself. His wife put the notes back into-the envelope, placing it on the sewing-machine. When looking for it some time later she suddenly remembered having gathered up some papers a short time before and thrown them in the fire. .A hurried search of the ashes revealed the corner of the envelope but of the two £5 notes ther» was no trace
