* INVEEOABQILL, Last Night. While crossing a baok water of |fche flooded Makarewa xiver on horaehack f.bin afternoon, John Cuff, aged 35, emplpyed on a faun at Tpggqck Crgek, was in some manner unseated and is ■ believed to have been drowned. A seareh made for the body was un*. suceessful ewing to .the river being in high flood. He was seen being appar- 1 ently waahed ott his horse by a boy j who went for assistance, but when the ( others arrived the man conld not be se«i and the horse was on the oppQsits ( side of the xiver.
