Big Reclamation Scheme Proposed . D.URBAN, Feb. 3. Far-reaching development .of • Durban Harbour is envisaged in' a scheme which the Natal Chamber of Industries hae advanced. " ;* ' It provides for' extensive" reclamation at the head of the' Bay over a number of years, and for the, prov'ision 'of. waterborne transport* in ihe" reclaimed area. Under this scheme three carials would be driven from a new line of quays towards the three' rivers in' the "area. Shipping woiild enter 'tliese c'anals to disembark goods at the doors of new factories. ■ ' The area to he" reclaimed is largeJy swamp, and the • building -of : canals would drain the. land.' ' • - ' , Then new -quays w.ould he' built right along the Bay head*. . ; ■ . - ■ The result would be that Durban Harbour would be surrounded by quays on three sides. only the Bay Embankmenfc being left clear.
